Fuse Catastrophe

By adminSaturday - June 28th, 2008Categories: Uncategorized

It was supposed to be a twelve hour comic jam. Most of us had booked time from 12am until 4 or 6am. So all of the usual faces were there. We’d only been there for a few hours when all of a sudden security shows up and tells us that the third floor has been cleared and something about leaving the building. I continued drawing. As did most of us. Then I noticed that more and more security guards were showing up at the site. I asked Leonard, who was in charge of the show what was going on. He was very upset and told me that we all had to leave. While I was packing up (and trying to gather as many panels as I could so that we could scan them) I heard what was going on.
Apparently a bunch of people got drunk on the lower level and began fighting and destroying some of the art work, while this was going on there were also people in the lobby shooting heorin.
We were all upset at having to leave, but Steve and I convinced everyone that we should meet up at Denny’s on Davie street, and so we did.
Some of us got rides and the rest of us walked. It was kind of cool to have a whole big group of comic artists just walking around downtown Vancouver on a Saturday night. However, not as fun as it would have been if the jam hadn’t been cancelled.
Although I got to help cheer up the artist who worked on Next Wave that he did a good book and that Marvel were stupid for cancelling them.
I managed to catch a ride home from a couple of comic creators who live half a block away from me, ( they paid because the guy won a bunch of money off of Rolston’s infamous gambling machine) Meh. It’s early now so I’m off to bed. I’ll write more later.

Thinking Out Loud

By adminMonday - June 9th, 2008Categories: Uncategorized

A general update for those of you that I don’t see regularily. I went for the portfolio interview on Sunday. I connected very well with them. They want me to read the script and then send them some character sketches. I have some very strong images for the story. I think that we’d work well as a team. But this also means that I have to finish reading this script A.S.A.P. so I can get down to work and hope I get the contract. Which wouldn’tve been possible if I hadn’t worked on The Guardian.
Well it’s either this job or one of a million other projects I have on the go right now.

Pros & Cons

Quick update before work.
This Sunday I have a portfolio interview for a graphic novel. I’m not expecting to get the contract, but it’s the fact that I got an interview is enough for me. I have a lot of cynicism towards this. Mostly because of the old adage, “if it’s too good to be true, then it probably is”

Tuesday is bloodletting day, Wednesday is blood test day.

Then the week after that I go to Kelowna for the parenting conference.

Finally, the last week of the month I am attending a Comic Jam..but not just any comic jam one that’s going on at the Vancouver Art Galley.

That is all for the month of June and I must get ready for work.
