Longest Day in Recent History

By adminThursday - January 29th, 2009Categories: Uncategorized

So much to do and such a relatively small time to do it in. I need to apply for a passport. I need to save for two plane tickets, because even though I got accepted in to the Edmonton Convention I will simply just go to the Calgary Expo and then off to Dragon-con for my birthday. At least if I get a booth I can tell everyone to buy a comic from the birthday girl.
Today I also sent off a query email to Haven distributors. Let’s see if I can get my foot in the door there. Much nail biting ensues.
I also need to see if I can find some Canadian distributors…again. We’ll see how that works out.
I have gotten quite a bit of work done today on the comic. I just need to keep it up and finish. I don’t want to project anything until I’m down to the last page. All I can say is that it’s a good thing I can bang together a layout in about 15 – 20 minutes a page once I have the scaling figured out.
That’s all for now….

For Twitter

I am *not* allowed on Twitter anymore. Or at least not until I finish the comic. I think the Brundle-burger says it all….

23/1/09: Today in History

By adminFriday - January 23rd, 2009Categories: Uncategorized

I wanted to show off pictures of my boxy livingroom. It’s coming together slowly but surely. I have my printer and scanner put where they need to be but not hooked up yet. Why? Because I have to find my T.A.R.D.I.S. (it’s more than a ship that travels throughout time and space, it is also a usb hub)
I’m also feeling myself getting more and more ready to settle back into my routines. The only thing is that I want to add some new routines.
One being hitting the gym during the week when I am not working both jobs or going to other social events. Hmm….the gym may have to be a weekend thing after all. I’ll pick up weights next week so that I can do weight training at home.
As far as comics go I think I’ll be back in full swing by next week. (I plan to resume working tonight).

I was listening to a short interview with Neal Adams and he was talking about the pitfalls of when Image formed. About how it was a group of creators who wanted to see more of the money from their work. The problem was that because they were doing it all themselves they slowly stopped creating while they were forced to look after the business aspect of things.
I feel that I may be falling into that trap. Basically, everything takes five times as long as it would if I had someone helping with even one thing. I have so many different things that I need to get on top of: distribution, POD/changing to small professional print runs (whichever is cheaper), website, this year’s convention schedule (including getting a passport) and oh yeah I almost forgot! MAKING BLOODY COMICS!!!

Distribution – thanks to an online friend, I am looking at submitting some of the more traditional comic book sized comics to Haven, but in the meantime I still have my true mini-comics to distribute plus maintain my ties that I already have established.

P.O.D./Small proffessional press run – I need to decide which way to go with that and then who to go through. With the P.O.D.s I am looking at Comic Xpress, Kablam and Lulu. As for small press runs, I’m looking at either Horizon (a local Vancouver print shop) or SIPS. Then there is the comparing of prices and what-not that must be done.

Website – I had someone who was going to work on my site. But with them moving back to Ontario it looks like it’s going back to being my job. Which means slapping together something simple, yet functional and then evolving it as I am able.

Convention schedule – by popular demand I am going to have to look at the Calgary convention if there are still spots. Then I need to see if I can squeak into Dragon-con, but I still need to find that artist’s bio..that part is killing me. I have decided that until after I am able to have a release party for Isaac & Lee #3, I will not be attending any Vancouver Conventions…end of story.

Finally, Making Comics – I really hate that this isn’t at the top of my list. I need to finish Isaac & Lee before I start any of that other stuff. I guess that’s what it comes down to in the end. One thing at a time. Break it down into panels….then go.

Home

By adminThursday - January 22nd, 2009Categories: Uncategorized

Slowly but surely the house is getting set up. I still have so much to get rid of. So much stuff to reorganise. All in good time I imagine. I think I have to reconstruct a box so that I will have places to put things to lug to second hand shops…and the garbage. My focus will be my sewing area and the book shelves.
Overall it’s nice just to have a place where I feel at home so soon even if it’s filled with boxes.
With all of this settling in, my comic work has been on a bit of a hiatus. But once I get the books on shelves and my sewing table sorted then I can finish setting up my scanner and printer and settle back into some sort of routine.

21/1/09 testing out new client.

By adminThursday - January 22nd, 2009Categories: Uncategorized

So I am trying out a new palm LJ client. I won’t know how it will look until I get to a computer with internet (which isn’t my house for now). There was also an “art” photo of my keyboard at work, but I don’t know if it will upload or not.
The next post will be more serious.

The Brief Updating

By adminWednesday - January 21st, 2009Categories: Uncategorized

I woke up this morning with an insane craving for fruit. Therefore my goal for today is to eat all fruit to extinction.

In other news I was told what box some of my clothes were packed in…I am one step closer to knowing exactly where all of my things are.

I will also eventually post pictures of my new home once I get some more boxes unpacked.
