Or, why I should never announce something until it’s ready to post
I’ll start by saying it’s been too long since I’ve posted here, that’s because it’s been a busy few months. Secondly, I’d really like to talk to December Beth, she was a little too optimistic and thought that she’d be able work on comics while trying to draft a novel. This did not happen. It was an experiment and it failed. As a result, Tedieval did not update in January as planned. For anyone who was looking forward to new comics, they will come out but I’ll update you once they are ready to go live again. This began an avalanche and as a result, nothing will be on time this year.
I will let you know once the site is ready to go live and will announce it on this website.
Isaac & Lee
This won’t be ready until after Tedieval goes live. I will announce it here on this website.
A Grotto of Poppies
This comic will be on hiatus until further notice.
Wow. What a year! But I don’t have to tell you that. Whatever you were expecting, this year was not at all what you thought it would be. I was still able to be fairly productive and I got things done. Of course it’s never as much as I would like, but this past year has taught me a bit of patience.
As of January 1st I will be performing my own version of a Novel writing month that I am calling Janowrimo. During this month I will be working on the first draft of the story Carla and the Elves. I was pretty sure that there was already a story titled this which my father had written, but I haven’t found it yet so I am writing this story for now. I will also be editing the sequel to Talisman of the Winds called Stonecaller. For those of you who follow my YouTube Channel, you would have heard me read this story earlier in 2020. I will let you know more as I continue the editing process. Anything beyond that? Well, I’ll let you know later on in 2021.
How is it fall already?! It seems like summer was yesterday! Well, it’s time for another quarterly update.
For those of you who haven’t noticed, the first issue of Tedieval is available on Amazon! I’m working to get it distributed to other places, although if you email me at moongoth at hotmail dot com I can arrange to sell you an ebook directly. Also, for those of you wanting physical copies of comics, I’m afraid those won’t be ready for at least a couple of months (but that’s because I have a super surprise to go with that) The webcomic is currently on hiatus while I work on a new script.
A Grotto of Poppies
I have an ashcan of the first part of the story available directly from me. Again, email me at moongoth at hotmail dot com and we can make arrangements for me to send you an ebook directly. This webcomic is also on hiatus while I work on pencils for the next story.
Beth’s Art Website
I have to admit, it’s been too long since I last posted on my art website. I plan to get back to posting sketches regularly by January at the latest. Until then, I plan to infrequently post my doodles here and there when I have a moment. If you are interested in any of the artwork that I post on the site, they are now available as prints! Simply email me at moongoth at hotmail dot com and I’ll ship them out to you!
This is the reason why I’ve had no time to work on comics or artwork. I’ve been super busy working on editing Talisman of the Winds. But guess what? The revisions are over! Now I’m formatting it and soon I’ll be releasing it for wide distribution! I’ll let you all know once I am closer to the launch date.
But I haven’t just been editing that. I’ve been doing nightly readings of manuscripts on Twitch. Once they are done, I lightly edit them and release them to YouTube. So if you are interested in listening to stories that will eventually be published feel free to check them out at my YouTube Channel!
I am also practising junk writing every morning as I warm my brain up for Nanowrimo but I’ll talk more on that over on the JP Wagner website later.
Part of me wants to write a post about how Moongate Studios is responding to the COVID crisis, because I think it’s important that no matter how little we can do to respond, it’s still important to issue some sort of statement. We may have gotten used to seeing it in all of our emails and in social media about how companies are responding. Here at Moongate Studios, well, let’s be frank. It’s just me and I’m working from home and taking the normal precautions that everyone else is too. I will state that this has impacted my ability to produce, meaning that I am now behind on projects. So now I will begin my project updates.
I just finished the last page for the first arch this past weekend. Once it goes live in July I’ve announced a hiatus until I get the next script completed (and the next few pages done). I’m hoping that it won’t take long to get it back up and running though, but I want to prepare for just in case.
I am working on finishing up the story arch for Tedieval and hope to have everything ready to go by the end of the month, the pages should continue until June and then it will be on hiatus while I work on the script for the next arch.
In addition to working on scripts for continuing projects I am in the middle of live-editing Talisman of the Winds as well as the very slow progress of translating Avantir. I’ll be talking more in depth on those projects on the JP Wagner website So feel free to swing by there.
I was going to write a spring time post to give everyone an update on conventions and whatnot but then… Well, I’d like to say it was the global pandemic’s fault, but it really wasn’t that. I just got caught up with other things and forgot that I actually hadn’t posted anything.
I will say that the whole thing with Covid-19 freaked me out at first, but then my coping mechanisms kicked in. What are my coping mechanisms you might ask? Well apparently part of it includes doing a live action readthrough/edit of one of my dad’s manuscripts. If you are interested in listen to me claw my way through reading and stumbling over simple words you can find me on Twitch and my username is Beth At Twitch (all one word and all lowercase), just look for the purple dragon.
Another part is focussing on finishing both Tedieval and A Grotto of Poppies webcomics, both of them are on a monthly schedule and I will be taking a brief hiatus beginning in June/July while I work on scripts for the next stories. Finally, in order to maintain a sense of accomplishment, once a week I’m going to do a sketch and a short story (which could be anything from microfiction to a true short story).
One final thing before I wrap things up, please be aware that my store page is currently broken. If you are interested in purchasing anything from me, please feel free to email me and we can make arrangements from there. Sorry for the inconvenience everyone! If you are interested in giving a one time donation, please feel free to head over to my Kofi page where you can buy me a kofi (it’s basically a tip jar).
As we head into February, it’s long past due that I update this website! I don’t really do New Year’s Resolutions but I do set goals, my goal for this year is to do more regular updates on all of the sites.
I’m working on a bunch of editing projects at the moment, so I will be giving more updates on the process, but I’m going to start posting more interesting things like Character Sketches, facts and tidbits about the worlds that I am exploring.
So basically I’ll be attempting to make sure everything is updated at the very least once a month but we’ll see how it goes.
As we are wrapping up Fall and heading into winter soon, it’s time for another update.
I’ve been bouncing back and forth a lot this year as I am still trying to get used to shifting between writing, editing and comic creating. It’s been a slow go, but I now have a plan on what I am working on.
These are the easy area because I have been self-publishing them for so long. However, I have been missing a lot of opportunities here. I have just finished up the comic pages for this year’s webpages. In November I will be working on the pages for the first part of 2019 and then settling into some script writing as well as adapting some scripts from novels. Then in December (which I have affectionately nicknamed Digital December) I will be formatting my comics for some new digital and print markets! I’ll let you all know about this as I finish them.
I’m currently working on an outline for The Sword of Justice as part of structurally editing the manuscript. As of this writing, I am currently a quarter of the way through. Once I’m done outlining I will be sending it off to my editor and then it’s going to go on the backburner for a couple of months while I work on scripts and editing other pieces. In my pie in the sky hopes, I would like to be able to release an anthology of short stories. Although, realistically, it likely won’t be ready until Spring of 2020.
So that’s pretty much what I’ve been working on and what I will be working on until the end of the year. I hope to be able to give you another update soon as I head into winter, talk to you soon!
Can you believe that it’s already summer? I’ve completely lost track of time again. Funny how that happens sometimes. Anyway, I have a few things to check in with, so let me go down the list:
On June 19th my newest webcomic, Tedieval.com will go live! Join Theodoro on his wild all-ages adventures.
For adult audiences, visit A Grotto of Poppies for the next update in the webcomic detective thriller. It updates on the 20th of the month.
On the Writing Front…
I just got the edits back from my editor and will be reworking the novel The Sword of Justice. There will be a lot of work ahead of me but I’ll keep you all updated on that. For more details and writing bits and bobs, visit The JP Wagner website and read about my progress.
Where I’ll Be:
The next event I’ll be at will be When Words Collide in August. It’s not just a conference for writers, it also celebrates readers and there will be lots of books and authors there. So if you are in Calgary on August 9th to 11th, come on out!
Hi all! So it looks like what was supposed to be a monthly check-in has turned into a quarterly check-in. I’m going to work on trying to improve that but giving a monthly update on what I’m doing.
Comics and Artwork
So I’ve been working on updating websites and getting a couple of sites ready to launch (one having launched on May 1st and the other one set to go live in June)
On May 4th I was a part of Free Comic Book Day at my local comic store, Taz Comics. It was busy as always and I was selling fan art, comics, and doing commissions. The best part was seeing the amount of young readers who came out to discover comics! Because that’s what Free Comic Book Day is all about.
On May 18th I will be walking around VANCAF saying hi to people and promoting my webcomics. If you are in or around the GVRD, I highly recommend stopping by the Yaletown Roundhouse Theatre to check it out. Admission is free!
Then on June 1st I will have a table in Calgary at the Panel One Festival. This festival is reported to be like VANCAF, I can’t wait to see what it’s like and to get a chance to meet other comic creators from the Calgary area.
So this is my update for now. I have a lot of different things going on in different parts of the Studio, so stay tuned for future updates!
That’s right! Tomorrow is the Pancake and Booze Art show! I’m exhibiting a couple of my sketches and will be selling postcard and tiny artcards, so if you like booze, pancakes and art then come on down to the Fortune Club in Vancouver, BC!
